How To Write A Blog That Gets Traffic: Creating Quality Content

Last updated on June 16th, 2023 at 11:40 am

When you think about it, it makes sense that so many people have turned to the internet to share their thoughts with the world. It’s a great place to connect with like-minded people, share your expertise, and get feedback from a community.

And, with so many bloggers out there today, it’s even easier than it used to be to start a blog to share your thoughts with the world.

But, getting traffic is another story.

You need to consistently create high-quality content that people want to read.

In this blog post, you will learn about the three-part strategy you need to keep your blog focused on what matters, produce quality content consistently, and drive traffic to your blog.

If you are ready to get started, read on.

What’s the difference between a blog and a website?

To understand how to get traffic to your blog, it’s important to know the difference between a blog and a website.

A blog is simply a website that has been designed for the sole purpose of publishing content.

If you have a personal website, for example, and you want to share your thoughts with the world in written form, you can create a blog on that site.

You can also start from scratch with your own domain name and design it from the ground up as a blogging platform.

A website, on the other hand,  is simply a collection of pages on a domain name.

Guess what?

A blog is just one of those pages.

In my experience, websites are often static, meaning the content on them doesn’t change often.

This means that you can have a website with a blog section on it!

What makes an effective blog?

If you’re looking to get traffic from search engines like Google, Yahoo, Bing and others, you need to understand what makes an effective blog.

The most important thing is publishing high-quality content consistently.

Luckily, there are many different ways of doing this but here are four key things that all bloggers should do:

  • Write often
  • Write about topics that people want to read about
  •  Write in an engaging way
  • Write content that is useful to the reader.

I will talk about this in a minute, let’s cover the basics first so we are both on the same page.

How to start a blog in Kenya

When you think about starting a blog, you’ve probably asked yourself some questions.

  • What type of topics should I write about?
  • Will people want to read what I have to say?
  • What are other blogs in my niche doing that I can learn from?

To start your blog, there are three key things you need to keep in mind.

First and foremost, know why you want to start blogging and who your audience will be.

Second, create content that is engaging for your audience.

Finally, make sure that your blog is easy for people to find on search engines by optimizing the keywords in your title tag, meta description, and URL (that’s what is called SEO, search engine optimization).

There are many other factors that go into creating a successful blog such as choosing the right platform (blogging software), getting feedback from experts, and staying focused on what’s important.

But these three things will get you started with a solid foundation for success!

What are the different blogging platforms?

Talking of blogging platforms, there are, in fact, many different blogging platforms available in Kenya.

The most popular ones are:

  • WordPress
  • Blogger
  • Tumblr
  • Medium

These services have a wide range of features and templates so you can design your blog exactly how you want.

If you’re just starting out, we recommend using WordPress or Blogger because they are easy to use and free to start with.

That aside, let us talk about the three-part strategy you need to write a blog that gets traffic.

1). Create Quality Content

Quality content is an important part of your blog. With quality content, you can draw in a larger audience and generate higher-quality leads.

But what does quality content even mean?

Quality content is defined as the type of content that appeals to the reader or audience. It’s also the type of content that helps people take action.

In other words, it’s not just about producing high-quality writing; it’s about producing high-quality articles that people want to read and share with others.

Understand your target audience

To produce quality content, first, understand your target audience.

How can you do that?

You can start by asking questions such as, “Who is my primary customers?” or “Who are the people that are most interested in my product/service?”

Second, you need to understand your customer’s problems.

What do they feel is missing from their lives?

Or what do they want to solve?

Finally, you need to learn about your customer’s values.

What are the things that are most important to them?

What makes them happy?

Once you know who your audience is, you can create content that caters to their needs and interests.

For example, if you have a blog about fashion, your target audience might be middle-aged women.

These women might be interested in fashion trends for the fall season and how to incorporate them into their wardrobe. This information would make for a great article for your blog!

Have consistency

One way to create quality content is through consistency.

Consistency goes hand-in-hand with quality content because you need to ensure that your posts are always at the same level of quality so the audience won’t get bored with them or lose interest in your blog.

Make it actionable

Another way to create quality content is by making sure you’re taking actionable steps on your blog.

For example, if you’re posting a recipe, make sure you use relevant ingredients and step-by-step instructions so people know how to follow along when they try out your recipe at home.

When it comes down to it, there are many ways for you to create quality content on your blog that will result in higher traffic numbers for your website and greater engagement from readers in turn.

2). Create a unique voice

Every blog is unique. Each blog has a unique voice that gives it its own distinct feel, tone, and identity.

It’s your job to find the voice of your blog so that you can share your message with the world in a way that grabs people’s attention. It also helps to create content that is consistent with the voice of your blog.

For example, if you’re writing about how to start an online business and share tips on working from home, make sure you don’t slip up by sharing a post about how to play football or become a DJ.

Make sure you’re consistent with the content that you provide and that you’re delivering what your audience expects.

3). Build your community

Creating an online community is key to getting traffic. You have to encourage people to share your content, follow your blog on social media, and leave comments on your blog posts.

If you don’t create a great community, it’s unlikely that those people will continue coming back to read your content.

What’s more, if they don’t see a benefit in their time spent with you, they may be less likely to share it with others.

To build your community, start by asking questions about what interests them the most. This will give you insight into what type of content they like and want to read from you.

It also gives you the opportunity to engage with them through comments or emails so that it feels more personal.

One way that can help get engagement is by offering contests where people can enter for free or even win prizes for entering a specific number of times.

Thus far, these three things should make it easy to write a blog that attracts thousands of readers per day.

But here are some other things you can do to help cement your position in the readers’ minds.

4). Focus on what matters to your audience

You might have a lot of ideas for blog posts, but it’s important that you focus on what your audience wants to read.

Consider how long you want your posts to be and what topics are most relevant to your audience.

For example, if your audience is mostly male, then you may want to focus more on content that’s related to men’s health.

If they are looking for advice on how to start a food blog, then they might appreciate content related to cooking or recipes.

If you know there’s a topic that will interest your audience and that they seem interested in reading about it (and not just once), then go ahead and share it with them!

5). Share your story

People love hearing stories.

They like to know how people got to where they are today and what they learned along the way.

It is important to share your story in a way that provides value to others while also creating a connection with them.

This can be done by telling a story about how you struggled through the process of starting an online business, but now it’s paying off because of all the money you saved on outsourcing work to freelancers or because of all the time you saved by outsourcing tasks instead of doing them yourself.

In this case, it’s your story about how hard it was for you to start an online business in Kenya but ultimately how rewarding it is, which attracts more people to start their own online businesses.

This is true for any blog topic, whether it’s about blogging, entrepreneurship, freelancing, or any other topic.

6). Share your expertise

People love to learn from others who are experts in their field.

As a freelancer or entrepreneur, you can share your expertise with others by writing about a topic related to your services.

For example, if you’re a freelance writer, you can write about how to hire the right writer for your project. If you’re an app developer, you can share tips and tricks related to apps and app development.

If you’re a graphic designer, you can write tips on how to find the right designer for your project.

The key here is to create valuable content that provides value and insight into a subject matter that is relevant to your target audience.

This will help build trust with new leads and potential clients as they see that you’re providing value through your content.

7). Make your content easy to read

You want your blog posts to be easy and enjoyable to read.

Keep in mind that your audience will be reading on a screen, so you want them to have an easy time reading your words.

You can do this by using bullets and subheadings, as well as short paragraphs.

8). Make it easy for your audience to share your content

If you want your blog posts to be shared, then you’ll want to include social media sharing buttons on the page.

You can do this with a plugin like Shareaholic that will add the buttons to your site.

9). Be sure to share content on social media

You can’t just publish a blog post and expect people to read it. Instead, you need to get the word out about your new blog post so that people know it exists.

Sharing on social media is a great way to do this because most of the people in your network will see it in their social media feeds.

If you’re not sure where to start when it comes to sharing on social media, then an article like this one should be helpful: How To Use Facebook For Business.

Final Words: How to Write a Blog That Gets Traffic

If you want to write a blog that gets traffic and engagement, then you need to be original.

You need to find your own unique voice and style.  You also have to have an active social media presence.

And you should always be willing to share your opinions and get feedback from others.

Finally, you need to focus on topics that matter to your audience so they will appreciate what you’re writing about.
